Quality Assurance

All raw materials are carefully selected and laboratory tested using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to verify standardization of all herb identification.
Each granule is tested by our GMP-certified manufacturer for microbes and heavy metals such as Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Arsenic. Our granules are also tested for organochlorine pesticides such as DDT and BHC using only the most stringent, certified testing techniques. All testing standards exceed the required standards of China, Taiwan, and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for heavy metals. Certificates of Analysis are provided to us by the manufacturer. Through the exclusive sourcing of sulfur-free herbs for our granules we are helping to raise the industry standard, ensuring that patients receive only the finest quality herbs.

Accuracy

Since 2007, Kamwo has been filling granule formulas using our innovative Granule Accuracy Check (GAC) system. This system, including computer software, barcode technology and integrated electronic scale, was specifically designed to address the potential for human error. Each granule formula filled at Kamwo is GAC-ensured to be exact to specification, safe and effective.

The Process

Once herbs have been carefully selected, we verify their species using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to ensure consistent levels of active ingredients. These techniques guarantee that only the intended medicinals are used in a given product. After selection, all herbs are thoroughly cleaned and cut, and are processed following strict manufacturing protocols.

Next the herbs soak in large stainless steel vats. Volatile oils are then extracted from the herbs before the heating process begins. Once the oils are removed, the herbs are boiled down into a decoction. Temperature and cooking duration are closely monitored to ensure that the herbs are not overcooked and that the optimal amount of each constituent is extracted. The decoction is then piped into a condensing vat where a vacuum causes further evaporation and concentration.

In the final chamber, the remaining concentration is sprayed onto a maltodextrin starch excipient, resulting in granules. It is during this last phase that any volatile oils that may have been removed are reintroduced to the chamber and absorbed into the granules. These finished granules are then packaged in plastic bottles, labeled with name and expiration date to ensure freshness. Batch numbers are assigned to each shipment so that all final products can be traced back to their original sources.
